Mixing Skin Clay and Rolling Sheets for The Doll

Fearless Leader: to someone else
Fearless Leader: so there's no break in the record keeping
Fearless Leader: but you ladies have to work this out with yourselves
jill_z_q: I'm out on the screen shots and logging since I got to run
to the P.o in 10
Fearless Leader: for I am doing the claying
merrie60us: I just sent a test of this log to the yahoo group can
someone go see if it's alright it's called test
Fearless Leader: Suzy I'll see you when you get back then, I'm
setting up, going to mix clay skin
Fearless Leader: coolness
jill_z_q: otherwise I would do the screen shots even know I Have no
clue how LOL
Fearless Leader: I hope I didn't say anything stupid
Fearless Leader: LOL
Fearless Leader: YIKES
many2c: I think I get up and down so much I am afraid i'd miss
something
merrie60us: two people should probably do the log in case one gets
bumped off or something
merrie60us: I will do it
Fearless Leader: PERFECT
Fearless Leader: and the links worked and everything
merrie60us: I cannot take pictures
Fearless Leader: and I didn't say anything stupid
Fearless Leader: LOL
merrie60us: don't know how
Fearless Leader: we have two viewers on cam?
jill_z_q: let me check if it works today for me
Fearless Leader: who does not know how to access the cam?
Fearless Leader: Merrie and Mitch can help you figure it out
Fearless Leader: they are on as viewers
tedi382001: how do you do that?
frogger70301: If you don't know how to get the cam, let me know.
merrie60us: just right click on ms clay art and then click on view
webcan
tedi382001: ok
jill_z_q: says I'm waiting for permisson
frogger70301: Do you see where it says Fearless Leader
merrie60us: good
tedi382001: yep
merrie60us: NJ will let you in
frogger70301: with the tv looking thing next to it?
tedi382001: ok thanks
frogger70301: Right click on her name then click on view webcam.
frogger70301: sorry about that.
tedi382001: got it thanks
merrie60us: No she should right click on msatclayart that's what I do
frogger70301: I'm just a bit slow.
jill_z_q: I know how to do it normally but it isn't acting normally
Fearless Leader: Suzy I just sent you an invite
jill_z_q: something funky going on
Fearless Leader: what are you getting as an error message, server
busy or something?
Fearless Leader: give effort after the PO
jill_z_q: network error
jill_z_q: on server
jill_z_q: something like that
jill_z_q: it is all funky like a chicken
merrie60us: maybe you should log out and get in again
jill_z_q: it did it yesterday I figure it out.
jill_z_q: the message I get is network error while connecting to
server
frogger70301: Has your internet been wacky?
jill_z_q: no
frogger70301: hmmm...
merrie60us: She is showing us aluminum foil
jill_z_q: when did we do pleats?
jill_z_q: that last time I got it to work
frogger70301: Weds. I think.
frogger70301: wow, it hasn't worked since?
Fearless Leader:
Aluminum foil armature.
jill_z_q: didn't work yesterday
Fearless Leader: This is the tute we will be referring to
Fearless Leader: and
jill_z_q: and don't think NJ did demo no thursday
jill_z_q: so that is about right
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/Sculpt/AluminumFoil/Armature-001.htm
Fearless Leader: This page is the one I'd like everyone to have open
Fearless Leader: Suzy, you said you have to go to the Post Office
Fearless Leader: why not get that done
Fearless Leader: come back
Fearless Leader: and let's figure it out then
jill_z_q: don't worry about it I'll figure out myself.
jill_z_q left the room
Fearless Leader: she'll have to figure it out, nothing we can do from
our end, but start the demo
merrie60us: NJ do you want the important parts of log or whole log
with chit chat too
Fearless Leader: all and everything
Fearless Leader: no edits
merrie60us: Okay
Fearless Leader: no spelling checks
Fearless Leader: so folks won't accuse us of hiding stuff
Fearless Leader: or cutting them out
Fearless Leader: I did cut out some things that got personal
Fearless Leader: in the middle of a demo
Fearless Leader: hate to do that, but I didn't think it was right to
put that on the web page
Fearless Leader: or when I give passwords for Epson
Fearless Leader: so the pix can be loaded up
Fearless Leader: but for the most part, everything and all
merrie60us: and send to you or the list
Fearless Leader: did we figure out who's doing screen shots?
merrie60us: How do you do it
Fearless Leader: I don't know, actually
Fearless Leader: Denise, Syl, Linda Bohrn
Fearless Leader: Eva's online, Mitch can you ping her and let her
know we're here
Fearless Leader: I'm still setting up
frogger70301: sure will.
Fearless Leader: thanks,
Fearless Leader: now while here
Fearless Leader: you are all hosts
Fearless Leader: not guests
Fearless Leader: I'll need you to type what you see
Fearless Leader: or the logs go, "watch this" to "oh now I
understand"
Fearless Leader: with nothing in between, what you see, type, if you
have questions type them when you have them
Fearless Leader: if you forget
Fearless Leader: or I don't get to answer you
Fearless Leader: I read the logs and find your questions there
Fearless Leader: I also see where part of the demo does not work for
folks
Fearless Leader: so your participation in this is as important as
mine
Fearless Leader: for your listmates who cannot be here with us today
Fearless Leader: so can we do this, describe like virtual scribes and
know you're doing it for your claymates
chelyha: are you going to mix colors first?
Fearless Leader: Ya, get that out of the way
Fearless Leader: so after the armature is maded
Fearless Leader: made
Fearless Leader: we can just go straight into putting skin on it
Fearless Leader: so this is potty time
Fearless Leader: for those who have to go
Fearless Leader: for I'm just going to be chopping up clay in the
food processor
Fearless Leader: white, raw sienna and translucent
frogger70301: I'm gonna try to fig out these screen shots.
chelyha: Actually I want to go get some ice cream real quick! It's
hot here!
tedi382001: what colours do you mix to get a skin tone?
Fearless Leader: and then after chopping them up in this food
processor I'm going to run the mess through the press to get sheets
Fearless Leader: it'll give them time to rest
Fearless Leader: before I start cutting leaf shapes out of it
Fearless Leader: to put skin on the armature
Fearless Leader: there's no particular measuring I use for skin
Fearless Leader: I mix colors like some folks make soup
Fearless Leader: by eye
Fearless Leader: by taste
Fearless Leader: a little bit of this and that
Fearless Leader: mix your own skin colors, everyone has their own
preferences
Fearless Leader: but keep track of your color mixes by way of color
cards
Fearless Leader: if you want to repeat a mix
Fearless Leader: for those who don't know what color cards are
Fearless Leader: let me know and I'll get you the link
Fearless Leader: but for now
Fearless Leader: I chop clay
Fearless Leader: I chop the different colors separately
Fearless Leader: but am not all that anal about dark bits getting on
light bits
Fearless Leader: for they will get mixed later
Fearless Leader: and not a soul is describing anything
many2c: I hate to do it, but, The Family has won at the moment. I
gotta go. But next time I will stay...Thank's for letting me play for
a minute..Margaret N
merrie60us: she is chopping clay in food processor
Fearless Leader: ciao Margaret
tedi382001: brb
merrie60us: still chopping it
many2c: Thanks! Bye!
chelyha: Ok, right now she is chopping clay,
chelyha: doing each color separately
Fearless Leader: chopping it warms it up
Fearless Leader: it makes premo white very tacky
chelyha: I'll bet it does!
Fearless Leader: see how it just sticks together
many2c left the room
merrie60us: puts clay in piles on aluminum foil
chelyha: two piles of clay, brown and white
merrie60us: showing how it sticks together
Fearless Leader: ratio is about two to one
Fearless Leader: now I'll chop translucent
Fearless Leader: so the brown is like a fourth of the equation
merrie60us: two of what color and one of what color
chelyha: Looks like cottage cheese
merrie60us: ich
chelyha: the white, not the brown!
merrie60us: Sorry I hate cottage cheese
chelyha: oh, I get it
merrie60us: Now she is taking translucent clay and opening it
merrie60us: cuts into pieces and puts in food processor
Fearless Leader: the translucent
Fearless Leader: doesn't like to chunk up small
merrie60us: chopping in food processor
Fearless Leader: so I'll mix the brown in with that first
Fearless Leader: since the white gets so tacky
Fearless Leader: see how it clumps
Fearless Leader: in hot weather it is worse
chelyha: It's too hot to clay here at all today
Fearless Leader: taking a bit of that
Fearless Leader: and then adding white to it
Fearless Leader: too much clay for one spin
merrie60us: spinning brown and trans in food processor
Fearless Leader: the white is like rice crispies with melted
marshmellows on it
chelyha: If you don't have a food processor you could do this just
with your pasta machine?
Fearless Leader: watch
Fearless Leader: it turns into a lump
Fearless Leader: one lump
Fearless Leader: easy to get one just one lump
merrie60us: looks like a melted hot fudge sunday
merrie60us: took out lump and put on table
merrie60us: now takes lump of clay and cuts in half
merrie60us: cuts half in half again
Fearless Leader: these will be our sheets after pressing
merrie60us: flattening clay
merrie60us: with hands
Fearless Leader: remember
Fearless Leader: roll these sheets
merrie60us: puts through pasta machine
Fearless Leader: like cigars
Fearless Leader: and press the cigars
Fearless Leader: instead of just folding
Fearless Leader: for quicker color mixing
Fearless Leader: should only have to do that four times
Fearless Leader: roll out a ribbon
Fearless Leader: roll it up
Fearless Leader: and press it
Fearless Leader: and your mixes will be done
merrie60us: comes out of pasta machine half of width and long (like
ribbon)
merrie60us: putting through pasta machine again
Fearless Leader: ok
merrie60us: color looks flesh now
Fearless Leader: that's sort of standard "skin" color
Fearless Leader: the brown is the smallest amount
Fearless Leader: translucent next
Fearless Leader: and white is half over all
Fearless Leader: I have to do a couple more sheets like this and then
start on the foil, take a break or stick around, it's just more of
the same
Fearless Leader: but since I'm rolling the sheets up
Fearless Leader: before pressing
Fearless Leader: it'll be quick
Fearless Leader: no need to describe all this
Fearless Leader: since it was described above
Fearless Leader: I lay the sheets out on recyled waxed paper
Fearless Leader: just to keep them separate and clean
Fearless Leader: ok
Fearless Leader: from that one lump of mixed clay
Fearless Leader: I got five sheets of skin clay
Fearless Leader: which can now rest
Fearless Leader: a bit while we make the armature
Fearless Leader: if we used these sheets now
Fearless Leader: they would be too tacky
Fearless Leader: difficult to work with
Fearless Leader: so do the skin ahead of the armature
Fearless Leader: and let it cool down and rest a bit, not a lot
Fearless Leader: for clay too cold will crack
Fearless Leader: and not yeild for you
Fearless Leader: I'll take questions now if there are any
merrie60us: none from me
chelyha: me neither
