Last Post: 03-15-08 ReBoot 03-29-08: You just don't know how relieved I am that I am able to open PhotoShop that's stored on an external HDD. I didn't know where the original disks were. If I had to reinstall PhotoShop on my new computer I'd be sunk. I did indulge in a free copy of Corel, gifted to me by ACER repair. A "gimme" that's supposed to cheer me up after sending this new machine back to Texas twice. The second time it didn't even need to be sent. The two different people I talked to when the computer came back the first time should have known that the box wasn't broken. I didn't realize I needed a DVI monitor, or an adaptor, to get images on my old monitor. So the computer was sent back to Texas a second time and when it came back it had the same problem. I call Texas again and got a gal who knew what my problem was. I needed either a new monitor or a DVI adapter. I was crossing my fingers, toes and eyes that it wasn't a new monitor I needed. I spent my whole Valentine's gift on this machine. After googling and reading forums and finding that YES there is an adaptor that's supposed to allow an old Monitor interface with a new computer. Whew and whew so I send off for that and wait. Forget about relaxing when it comes in. It's taken me two days to transfer my bookmarks, test PhotoShop (yeah it opens from the external HDD) and then there was the big test. Does FrontPage work? Finding the original disks for FrontPage 2000 and the upgrade to 2003 was the trick. I found them, Praise be to God. Then I did more searches for Vista and FrontPage 2003 issues. There was some. I found the download to patch Vista so FrontPage doesn't crash each time I have to insert a hyperlink. One of the most common tasks and I had a ton of hyperlinks to fix since I move to a new web host. Jupiter in Capricorn, that's what I got and I'm going through my fifth Jupiter Return. I don't take a step without doing all the homework I can. After reading forums and getting links for the patch to download I held my breath and started installing FrontPage 2000 first. Then I can install the upgrade to 2003. I had my key codes. I was ready. When it worked and I was able to create a page, make a hyperlink without crashing, and save it was like I was given a boost of rocket fuel. I've been reviewing all the Highlight pages going back to 2003 to make sure that all the thumbnails were there and the links were pointing to the "Biz-Archive" where the link was still pointing to my old Biz domain. Next was the webcam. I have a boatload of UBS ports on this new machine so I can have the external HDD and the webcam plugged in at the same time. I couldn't do any new YouTube videos since my old D drive died. The webcam works. Now we have to figure out how to get the old Epson PhotoPC 700 software into the new machine. I have an old diskette with the drivers. So I'm still wrestling with the new computer, got it in a half nelson, but it's still not pinned to the mat. This is a note for me that 12:00am was the official giving of the Valentine's gift from James. He was just as, if not more, frustrated with the new computer not working right. He celebrated by falling into his cups and crossing the line. Bronze the moment. |
