This tool is called a "kidney" it's a flat metal traditional potter's tool and usually sells for about a dollar/US. If you sharpen the straight edge with a knife stone you got a great tool on the cheap. So we use it to slice sections.
So here's the stack. At this point I had hope for this experiment.
When I reduced it and sliced it on the diagonal and flipped one half to get the chevron it didn't come out as I had expected. Ok so what do we have and how can we improve it?
First off, a center vein would improve the cane. Some darker color in between the blended cane sections. That'll help some.
It doesn't work too well all stretched out and large like this. Let's see what it does when it's reduced to a smaller size and fashioned into a leaf. Maybe we can salvage this cane.
