You are in "*g.MSATClayArt:1" ( )

auntyalias: 002: 05-22-03 demo Log
auntyalias: that's for my saving record
auntyalias: now I'll press some black and let's do some reckless
eyeballing
chelyha55: LOL
wi1dangl: all righty-then
chelyha55: I need to get back to making beads
lommomy joined the room
chelyha55: I guess I could do them over here
twinmom94002: as long as it's not the old "hairy eyeball"
chelyha55: have a craft fair in June
lommomy: Hello
chelyha55: lommomy what's your first name?
lommomy: Lisa
chelyha55: Hi Lisa
twinmom94002: hi!
chelyha55: I am Cheryl, by the way
twinmom94002: hi lisa...i'm lib
lommomy: Hello All
claychik: hi lisa!
lommomy: What is on the web cam?? looks like a blur to me
claychik: i'm sharon, and i'm also fixing to git
auntyalias:
05-22-03-DemoLog-001.htm
auntyalias: Lisa here's the log so far
claychik: talk to you all later!
claychik: cheryl, i'll se ya at the tretreat!
claychik left the room
chelyha55: I'm going to go too
chelyha55: I may check in later
lommomy: bye
chelyha55: have fun y'all
auntyalias: now who has not used a food processor to prep clay?
chelyha55 left the room
twinmom94002: me
auntyalias: let's do a roll call so everyone knows each other's name
auntyalias: NoraJean, San Francisco
lommomy: Lisa
auntyalias: name and location
frogger70301: Mitch, LA
auntyalias: please
twinmom94002: libbi (lib) belmont, california (just south of s.f.)
wi1dangl: Lynn (and TAZ the cat) in Atlanta
auntyalias: ok, using the food processor to prep clay saves not only
time but your hands
auntyalias: the clay gets broken up but I keep whirling it until it
becomes a ball inside the processor, then I pull that ball like taffy
auntyalias: it's great for mixing clay colors
auntyalias: and when pressing sheets, it makes you prep time shorter
auntyalias: check it out
auntyalias: now if your clay is a bit dried out
auntyalias: you can add TLS at this stage
auntyalias: and get it loose again
twinmom94002: how much clay can you process at one time (i.e.,
capacity)?
auntyalias: the blades will warm the clay and the clay will stick to
itself
auntyalias: see the ball of clay?
auntyalias: the clay is soft at this point and warm
auntyalias: pull it like taffy if you're mixing clay colors
wi1dangl: works great for old FIMO
auntyalias: form it a little before pressing a sheet
auntyalias: get a sheet of aluminum foil, I got pop ups foil sheets
auntyalias: and press your clay sheet
auntyalias: now I'll start cutting eyeball cane and lay it on the
sheet
auntyalias: I'll press the cane slices to the sheet, turning the sheet
between passes
auntyalias: I'll start out with darker eyeballs, big slices, and as I
add layers I'll add brighter colored eyeballs in smaller sizes
auntyalias: just for some variation
auntyalias: chat amongst yourselves as I do this for it will be a bit
boring
twinmom94002: i missed the purpose of the aluminum foil...
auntyalias: quick storage
twinmom94002: ah... *grin*
auntyalias: prevents leaching going from one sheet in storage to
another
auntyalias: oh rats
lommomy: you store clay in sheets?
auntyalias: My log save didn't make the urls active
auntyalias: let me do that right, ya I got stacks and stacks of
premixed colors in sheets for quick cane building, brb
auntyalias: take a 5 minute break, get coffee, go to the loo
auntyalias: I got to fix this log page
auntyalias:
Eyeball Index
auntyalias: it's done, but I got to go to the loo
auntyalias: brb, take 5 or check the eyeball page and this sheet page
auntyalias:
Sheets Group
auntyalias: I'm back, who else is back from break?
wi1dangl: i'm here
frogger70301: I;m here.
lommomy: Here
auntyalias: if you don't cut the eyeball cane evenly, put those
partial slices on the edge of the sheet
auntyalias: it really doesn't matter because we're going to be doing a
half dozen layers
auntyalias: when you press, do a couple of passes, narrowing the
rollers with each pass, and turn the sheet as you do the different
passes, so the cane slices get stretched out as you go
twinmom94002: back
auntyalias: now this could just as easily been citrus cane
auntyalias: Biz-Archive/Sheets/OnBlack/Grp-Fruit
auntyalias: lemons, limes, oranges on black
auntyalias: or it could be leaves
ljcswartz joined the room
auntyalias: Gold Leaves on Green
auntyalias: that's gold leaves on green back ground, done in this same
way,
auntyalias: Hi Jackie
ljcswartz: hi
auntyalias: Done in Blue

auntyalias: or blue and pearl ammonite, it's the same technique
auntyalias: a background sheet
auntyalias: slices of SOMETHING or other
auntyalias: press a bunch of times with each layering
twinmom94002: that ammonite is gorgeous nj
ljcswartz: very pretty
auntyalias: while I cut more eyeball cane and layer and press, check
out some of these other sheets. Don't ya love that Ammonite? It is
SOOO easy and very pretty
auntyalias: so check out those links while I do this boring bit here
frogger70301 left the room
auntyalias: now for the third eyeball cane, I'll use a smaller sized
cane so we get variation in size
auntyalias: between layers always go back to the widest setting on the
pasta press, narrow for the second pass
auntyalias: now for the fourth layer, brighter colors, smaller sized
slices
auntyalias: if these were flower cane slices you'd have a garden
auntyalias: if they were faux bamboo... you'd have something else
again
auntyalias: Tiger's Eye sheets.

auntyalias: here is faux bamboo done with Tiger's Eye colors
auntyalias: then pressed as a sheet, in this same sort of technique
auntyalias: I think it came out really nice
ljcswartz: very nice.........
twinmom94002: i love those colors
auntyalias: the dark brown in that Tiger's Eye is burnt umber with
TONS of translucent clay
auntyalias: so it's not solid brown, but allows the gold to show
through
auntyalias: when pressed thin
auntyalias: when you do gold sheets with this brown with trans mix as
layers
auntyalias: do leaves
auntyalias: then press like I'm doing here
auntyalias: you get leaves that show the other leaves underneath
auntyalias:
Tiger's Eye Group
auntyalias: Check out this link while I do the last layer of tiny but
very bright eyeballs
ljcswartz: I just came back from a quest on the web site.......... I
will chill out here and watch the cutting
ljcswartz: brb-- dinner time
auntyalias: now you can use any sort of cane slices to do this sheet
trick
auntyalias: I find if you have dark and light canes, like these
eyeballs
auntyalias: the first layers should be darkest, larger slices and the
subsequent layers should be brighter and smaller
twinmom94002: rule of thumb: large --> small, dark --> light?
twinmom94002: nevermind
auntyalias: LOL
lommomy: Nice....what do you have planed for this sheet
auntyalias: well it just stands to reason that if the background were
really bright and the slices large, for they are pressed again and
again stretching them out, if we put small dark slices on top the
small dark slices wouldn't show up as well
auntyalias: Oh I'll cover a tin
auntyalias: you ever cover a tin?
twinmom94002: now, of course, i've got to go make a zillion new canes
LOL
twinmom94002: oh yeah...bunch of 'em
auntyalias: we can call the tin, "Here's Looking At You Kid"
twinmom94002: hehehe
auntyalias: LOL
auntyalias: I have a trick for covering tins, using the tin to mark
out where I should cut the sheet
auntyalias: let me get a link for that for it needs to be in the log
twinmom94002: kewl! I think like you! that's what I do, too!
wi1dangl left the room
lommomy: never tried a tin but would like to learn
twinmom94002: tins are FUN!
twinmom94002: thank you, nj...i've got to run pick up my daugter from
school...i'll check back later & see if things are still hopping!
twinmom94002: bye all! have fun!
twinmom94002 left the room
lommomy: a couple of days age someone was talking about inclusions, I
was wondering could you cover a dried rose with TLS and bake would it
work??
auntyalias: oh rats, I don't have a good tute for that, maybe in the
epson albums
auntyalias: Lisa, I don't know, maybe you can give it an effort and
show us how it came out
lommomy: Ok need a rose frist It was just a thought lol
auntyalias:
http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1751108&a=30347677&f=0
auntyalias: Here's one album that has this technique I'll be showing
you
auntyalias: I'll get a tin and well see if we need to stretch out this
sheet to make it fit
auntyalias: This sheet isn't going to fit at this size. What I do is
take more black sheet, back this sheet and then press again
wi1dangl joined the room
auntyalias: that will stretch out the patterns
auntyalias: ok, this will work now, I take the tin and turning the
sheet to the back side I roll the tin so all the edges leave marks on
the sheet
auntyalias: that's your cut lines
auntyalias: no need to measure with a ruler if you mark you clay
sheets this way
auntyalias: let me save log since folks are getting booted out of chat
auntyalias: I might be the next one to be booted, brb
