11-26-2002: Hair-03, Kai Face and Bobby Pin

You are in "*g.MSATClayArt:1" ( )

Fearless Leader: I'm saving the log at this point and will take
questions before going forward, ok
kmrhodes: k
bonsaikathy: none at this point
Fearless Leader: done, so any questions about face molds
Fearless Leader: the hollow face trick for pre curing tweaking?
Fearless Leader: using hair on a face pin like this....let's talk
about this a bit
boobearns: kind of makes me think of a shrunken head
faye_shelton: well, I just stuck my first face mold into the oven, so
we'll see if I learned anything. . .
boobearns: what type of hair is it? fake or real?
kmrhodes: Gotta go girls.... dog need walked and cats need fed. how
long are you going to be here?
Fearless Leader: all day
bonsaikathy: See ya Karen
kmrhodes: I'll be back!
kmrhodes left the room
boobearns left the room
Fearless Leader: did you see where the lable said Non Flammable?
Fearless Leader: that's what we're looking for
bonsaikathy: yes
Fearless Leader: because we got to cure this hair
Fearless Leader: maybe a couple of times
Fearless Leader: just like planting a seed in the ground and covering
it up so the birds don't eat it
Fearless Leader: a trough is made in raw clay
Fearless Leader: and the ends of the hair are planted in there
Fearless Leader: and a small snake of clay is pressed over it
Fearless Leader: I like to use the braids because you can plant a
whole bunch of hair that's under some sort of control
Fearless Leader: with one move
Fearless Leader: it sort of keeps things from flying about
Fearless Leader: since these hair extensions come in LONG strands
Fearless Leader: we just take one braid let's say
Fearless Leader: by folding one strand
Fearless Leader: and putting it around a little face
Fearless Leader: you got Egyptian hair in an instant
Fearless Leader: walk like an Egyptian
faye_shelton: you would glue it? or implant it?
Fearless Leader: hold it in place with clay
faye_shelton: I see
Fearless Leader: are you ready to see that now?
faye_shelton: yes
Fearless Leader: I'd like to take a biological break
Fearless Leader: before that point
Fearless Leader: save this log and then we'll move forward
Fearless Leader: so Tea and Pee
Fearless Leader: y'all
faye_shelton: ok. need to go check on the kiddies anyway
Fearless Leader: good
Fearless Leader: back in 10-15 minutes

Fearless Leader: if I had cut this and had a bunch of shorter lengths
of hair
Fearless Leader: it get's out of hand
Fearless Leader: ya know?
Fearless Leader: So I'm going to thin this and give effort to running
the hair from the top of the head through the background sheet
Fearless Leader: I've been wondering how that would look
Fearless Leader: That's how much hair I'm going to use, but folding it
will quadruple the thickness
bonsaikathy: Wow, now that's a lot less hair.
buci131: ok I'm back
bonsaikathy: NJ has thinned a great deal of hair and it's now a lot
thinner strand
buci131: I saw the wild-man Kai
buci131: put a bobby pin in the center and then centered the hair on
the Kai face
bonsaikathy: She added back some of the hair
Fearless Leader: that's that little bit of hair folded so it's four
times as thick
Fearless Leader: no adding
Fearless Leader: just folding that yard long strand
bonsaikathy: got ya
Fearless Leader: there ya go
Fearless Leader: LOL
Fearless Leader: so I'm going to bore a hole
Fearless Leader: where I'm going to run that bobby pin through
Fearless Leader: and pull the fold of the hair
Fearless Leader: through to the back to anchor it down
Fearless Leader: it's an experiment and it may or may not work
Fearless Leader: you'll find out when I do
Fearless Leader: ok?
buci131: k
buci131: boring a hole through the background with a knitting needle
or skewer, looks like
buci131: using a carving tool of some sort to smooth the hole
buci131: is she making it a little wider, too?
bonsaikathy: I think so
buci131: now taking the hair in the bobby pin and putting the pin thru
the background
buci131: pulling it thru
buci131: oops a crack
buci131: using the carving tool to widen the hole more?
buci131: pulling it thru with some of the hair to the back of the
piece
buci131: and the hair is anchored
buci131: looks like it split at the top
Fearless Leader: it did split at the top
bonsaikathy: ouch
Fearless Leader: this thing is over a year old
Fearless Leader: laying about
buci131: yep==that's what I thought
Fearless Leader: but all that can be fixed because it's all uncured
buci131: it would probably work better with a fresher background
Fearless Leader: but it does look good to have the hair go through the
background
Fearless Leader: makes a natural looking part in the hair
buci131: now she's working with the background to put it back together
at the tip
buci131: Oh that looks pretty good from here
frogger70301: Hey, if you could get it through far enough, you could
use the loop of hair to hang on a necklace.
buci131: that's very cool
buci131: what a great idea!
buci131: the bobby pin thing
bonsaikathy: woops show it again, NJ
Fearless Leader: lol
buci131: it's pretty interesting what a diff hair makes to a face
bonsaikathy: I agree
frogger70301: What if you could get a piece of cardboard that has the
same size hole and hold it against the back? Would that stop it from
cracking?
Fearless Leader: using fresh clay would be a novel approach as well
Fearless Leader: the clay is very old
Fearless Leader: from the first Tour in 2001
Fearless Leader: this thing was made in Atlanta when I was at my
sisters, early June 2001
Fearless Leader: been traveling cross country and hanging out here
uncured all this time
Fearless Leader: that cracking...just fill it in with new fresh raw
clay
Fearless Leader: it's not big deal
Fearless Leader: Might even bury that bobby pin inside
Fearless Leader: rather than fuss with it
Fearless Leader: ya know?
buci131: hmm--that sounds like a good idea
bonsaikathy: sounds like a plan
frogger70301: sure does.
Fearless Leader: Now, if that face was done with a jelly roll cane
that was gold to brown
Fearless Leader: and then you added a black nose and a lion's mane
bonsaikathy: a lion
Fearless Leader: ok, now that's one way one could put hair on a face
pendant
Fearless Leader: and you'll be using fresh clay and making the bobby
pin hole bigger
buci131: heheh--I was recently thinking of doing a face like that but
feminine
Fearless Leader: so it wouldn't fall apart like this one is doing as
you watch
Fearless Leader: see it split opena gain and slice down the tile
Fearless Leader: LOL
buci131: heehee
Fearless Leader: it's falling!!
Fearless Leader: Bye Bye Kai!!
bonsaikathy: such is the way with live webcam
buci131: Kai is not being very cooperative here
Fearless Leader: LOL
Fearless Leader: no he is never cooperative that Kai guy
bonsaikathy: brb, potty break
Fearless Leader: ok, we got to get a close up look of planting hair
Fearless Leader: good time for a potty break
buci131: I'm sure the weight of the hair has nothing to do with it
Fearless Leader: I'll save log
Fearless Leader: naw, it's dry, lost it's sticky quality on the tile
is all
Fearless Leader: dusty too
buci131: I've got about 23 screen shots with chat, too
Fearless Leader: wow, how cool
Fearless Leader: thanks honey I'll save this bit
Fearless Leader: of log
