Basket Seller: Started years ago and fussed with off and on. Mr. King's MaMa's birthday was 10/27. So this mini scene got dusted off, some bits added and it got handed over.

Day of the Dead efforts from Past Years

Day of the Dead has been one of my favorite subject with clay. So here is a page with links to the various Day of the Dead efforts I've made since 1998 when I started goofing around with polymer clay and miniatures.

This 1998 skull here is white Sculpey on an egg shell. The color was pastel chalk shaved to powder and dusted on the larger areas. The smaller indentations were with a some clayshapers dipped in dust and pressed into the raw clay.

Still one of my husband's favorites.

Folks talk about Godiva Chocolates all the time but I had never had a box given to me. So I went and bought a box and took pictures of what was inside.

Real Candy Draft

In order to make realistic mini candy it is important to have real candy to look at to study. No color translucent clay and a touch of color will give you hard candy as well as JuJu Bees.

New: About Canes

A question about making canes came up on the MSATClayArt list 10-12-03 and I thought it was a good excuse to ramble. There's an overview of the history of cane as it relates to glass beads. Then links and thumbnails that lead to tutorials about how canes are used with Polymer Clay, with a focus on miniatures.

10-11-03: Scratch Crayon Technique

This technique does not use crayons, let's clear that up first off. My husband, James, named this technique because it reminded him of that childhood trick of layering black crayon over colors, then scratching off the black to show the color underneath. What we're doing here is taking scrap chop, layering it with black and putting it through their paces.

Congratulations KarenO, winning bidder for the Halloween Wreath put up on Ebay. Fellow Guild Member and pal of Denise, who organized this group effort. Once these things are seen in person, they got to be owned. All proceeds go to the Charitable Programs for MSATClayArt. Thank you KarenO, it feels good to keep it in the family and Denise can see it when ever she wants.

09-18-03: A note for a new associate: For the man with the name of two cities too expensive for either of us to ever live in, you said you liked Day of the Dead things, check out the Mexico Index, it's all there.
